Retaliation - Crazy Artists

If you can't read the shirt on the guy on the far left, it says "Dump Her". On the back it says,"Abecrombie and Fitch. The ladies of the class seemed to take offense.

An apple a day...

This painting is 5 x 5 oil on panel (gesso ampersand). $30.00 Day 2 of Carol Marine’s workshop. Our assignment for this painting was to paint an object by loading a paint brush with a color and making a brushstroke, we had to load the brush with a different color. Every brushstroke is a slightly different color. It was a good exercise. It was hard.

Different Strokes Challenge

I would not have picked this subject myself but it is this week's different strokes for different folks challenge. Website on the right hand side under "my blogs". A different picture is posted every two weeks and all different artists will draw or paint the image. They are all posted under each other in this blog. This week was definitely a challenge. My image is 5 x 5. Oil on panel. It's a lot of fun to see how other artists interpret the same image differently.

Huston-Tillotson College

This is a painting of Huston Tillotson College in East Austin. Oil on Panel. 8 x 8.

Plein Air Deborah

Not the most flattering photo (not the fault of the photographer)... It was FREEZING. Okay so it was about 40 degrees and that's just darn cold to a Texas girl. I had on about 5 layers of clothing. We were at Bull Creek Park, which is actually very beautiful, however it will be a while before I go back there. The last 2 days, I have painted at Laguna Gloria. The weather has been beautiful. Of course, it happens the week after our Plein Air instructor, Ian Roberts leaves. I learned a lot last week and now I'm being very concious of the intensity of color, as well as hue and value. My Mother took the photo. She came out and visited us and brought hot beverages to everyone's delight. The focus the first part of the week was on composition and we did a lot of sketching. Plein air (outdoor) painting is a lot more difficult than painting in the studio. However, I find that I learn a great deal from painting outside. Plus, it takes me to places I wouldn't normally visit.

This is a small painting of a little town in Provence called Suzette. It made a great small photo. I also have a picture of this location with a friend Suzanne in it with her umbrella. I think I might do it in a bigger size.

Grass Fire

Okay this is humorous... Today I was plein air painting in Bull Creek. I don't have a painting for sale today because I was trying to push the composition, it's not one of my best paintings. I learned alot. But after lunch I looked at my painting and the orange grass in the top looks like it's on fire. We all got a good laugh.

Cat Nap

5 x 5 Oil on Panel
You can purchase this painting for $50. This is one of my babies. Her name is Bailey and she is a sweetie. She likes to curl up. She's a black cat but when the light hits her, she's all colors. I painted this using no black paint. It's painted in complements of burnt sienna and ultramarine blue.

S-W-I-N-G

This painting is a 8 X 16, Oil on Panel. Here's another Golf subject. My husband and our Uncle and Aunt golf every Saturday and then we go to lunch. They think my art should be all golf, all the time. I tell them that art and golf are a lot alike. You go to paint or golf and you never know if it's going to be a masterpiece or you're going to fall apart. If you learn something new, you have to start from scratch as if you're starting over. It's a passion. It's an obsession. You love it and sometimes it makes you want to scream.
