Naughty Cat
9 x 12. Oil on Linen. This beautiful Siamese Cat, Ann, was one of the cats at the Villa in Tuscany. She was a naughty cat because she peed on one of the artists painting bags. However, I'm sure she had good reason. Maybe she didn't like the way said artist was mixing her paints?? Anyway, she was very sweet and we all have a naughty side...

Abstract Pro
Acrylic on Watercolor paper. 11 x 14. This is another one of my abstract paintings. I find it interesting that I spend so many hours of painting and practicing my skill at realism oil painting and impressionism. However, this happens to be one of my husband's favorites. It certainly didn't take the amount of time to paint. However, I guess the accumulation of the learning of composition and design ultimately bring me to the point where I have the ability to paint simple abstracts. Anyway, the abstracts are a fun diversion from the complexity of my normal routine.

My Journey Does Not End Here
8 x 16 Acrylic on Panel. Who painted this painting?? I did. I just finished a 2 day workshop with Jo Petersen and Dena Wenmohs at the Bunkhouse. It was completely different than what I normally do. I really needed a break from taking myself and my paintings so seriously! I can no longer claim to not be able to do an abstract painting.

Deep Eddy
5 x 5. Oil on panel. Yesterday it was 98 degrees in Austin. It makes plein air painting unappealing. However, several of us are in the habit of painting by local pools. We jump in before we start painting and drip dry as we paint. We were also in the shade. It was nice to be outside and Deep Eddy was the place to be! It was crowded.

Downtown Georgetown
Today the Plein Air Austin group painted in downtown Georgetown, Texas. It started to rain after a little while so I quit before I felt like I was finished. I am posting what I painted there en plein air. I used a 9 x 12 panel. I'm trying to force myself to paint larger when out in the field. I got comfortable painting 6 x 8s so now it's time to go bigger. I did not have an 8 x 10 with me so I really got to practice. I haven't been out painting in a couple weeks and it felt great to be outside. I can't even be upset about the rain because we need it so badly.

Whiskers
The bad news is I haven't painted in a week and a half. The good news is my Mom is cancer free and healthy after our visit to Chicago's Block Medical Center.
This is from the DPW Challenge called the Whole Cat and Kaboodle. It is a 5 x 5 Oil on Panel. Although I felt a little rusty, this guys was too cute not to paint!

Roddy Tree
Okay, so this is not THE Roddy Tree but It was painted at Roddy Tree Ranch en plein air on the porch of my cabin. Plein Air Austin had it's annual retreat at Roddy Tree Ranch. It was great fun. You will see a couple of paintings I did on this trip. Who knew Hunt, Texas was such beautiful country!!! Gorgeous! This painting is 7 x 12 Oil on Linen.

OMG!
This is 6 x 8. Oil on Panel. This painting was done for the DPW Painting Challenge. The photo was put up by Linda. She's texting and sitting on a fountain. I left the fountain a bit abstract. I really like the horizontal next to the vertical figure.

Boggy Creek Market
After walking around the farmers market and taking photographs, watching the chickens and talking to fellow plein air painters, I decided on a simple flower bush. The painting is actually a little warmer color in person. Just so you know it is an actual plein air painting, you can see the grass that is on the painting. Just kidding. I didn't realize there was grass on it until I cropped the image. This is a 6 x 8 Oil on panel.

The Sky is Falling
I named this painting after "Chicken Little". Although the KFC commercial kept coming to my head, "Chicken Genius". I didn't want people to misunderstand and think I was calling my painting genius. However, I'm thinking this is probably one smart chicken. This is from the DPW challenge where lots of talented artists each paint the same photo. I left some dripping in this painting because I liked the effect. This is 6 x 6 Oil on Gessoboard panel.

Zilker Botanical Gardens
I apologize that this is a little blurry. In my haste to get it photographed and on my blog, I didn't take a great photo. HOWEVER, tomorrow I intend to go in and lighten up some areas so I will take a better photo after my changes. This painting is done plein air, on location at Zilker's beautiful Botanical Gardens. It is 6 x 8 Oil on Panel. It may even have a little earth from the Zilker garden in with the oil paint! Just so you will know it's authentic....

DPW Challenge - Help Japan
This weeks challenge is to donate the sale of our paintings to aid Japan. This painting is for sale for $60. All but the shipping and handling are going to the Japan Red Cross. Please email me at deborahkth@sbcglobal.net if you want to purchase this painting. It is 6 X 8, oil on canvas.
The theme of the challenge was "home". I was born in Austin and after high school I moved away and didn't come back to Austin until several years ago. Austin is always my home and always will be. I painted the Capital Building of Austin. Capital of Texas. My State.
Here is the link to see all the other paintings in the challenge: DPW CHALLENGE.
