Portrait painting

This is an 8 x 8 oil on panel. I haven't decided a title for it. I had a professional photographer take some pictures of some of my paintings.

Prickly Pear

Here is a painting of a cactus I did this week. It is 6 x 8 and I only had a little time to do a painting so I decided to do something small. I named it "Prickly Pear" because my husband who loves to quote movies uses the line from "Leaving Las Vegas" occasionally. "I'm a Prickly Pear". It's one of the things....I guess you had to be there.

Jill Carver Wimberley Workshop

Monday through Wednesday I did a plein air workshop with Jill Carver. Ruthie, Suzanne and Ann from my trip to France were also in the workshop. We painted in Wimberley at Blue Hole. Only one day was without rain so we were only able to go outside Tuesday. I learned a lot. This painting is of the Texas State Cemetery. I painted it from a photo. It is a little more abstract than what I normally do but the goal was not to have a masterpiece, it was to get correct values in the painting so it was successful. Jill, the teacher, really liked it. She likes to paint more abstract. She is a great teacher and I realize what I need to concentrate on.

Awakening the Soul

This is a painting I did of my Mother doing Qigong.

Qigong (or ch'i kung) refers to a wide variety of traditional “cultivation” practices that involve methods of accumulating, circulating, and working with Qi or energy within the body. Qigong is sometimes mistakenly said to always involve movement and/or regulated breathing; in fact, use of special methods of focusing on particular energy centers in and around the body are common in the 'higher level' or evolved forms of Qigong. Qigong is practised for health maintenance purposes, as a therapeutic intervention, as a medical profession, a spiritual path and/or component of Chinese martial arts.

The picture I painted this from was taken by my sister in New Mexico.

New Painting and Hats

This is the painting I did today. I may go in and do a little more to it. I love hats! It's not always feasible to where one in Austin. However, now that I am doing plein air painting, I am able to wear some hats!
