I find it interesting that I spend so many hours of painting and practicing my skill at realism oil painting and impressionism. However, this happens to be one of my husband's favorites. It certainly didn't take the amount of time to paint. However, I guess the accumulation of the learning of composition and design ultimately bring me to the point where I have the ability to paint simple abstracts. Anyway, the abstracts are a fun diversion from the complexity of my normal routine.

We jump in before we start painting and drip dry as we paint. We were also in the shade. It was nice to be outside and Deep Eddy was the place to be! It was crowded.

Today the Plein Air Austin group painted in downtown Georgetown, Texas. It started to rain after a little while so I quit before I felt like I was finished. I am posting what I painted there en plein air. I used a 9 x 12 panel. I'm trying to force myself to paint larger when out in the field. I got comfortable painting 6 x 8s so now it's time to go bigger. I did not have an 8 x 10 with me so I really got to practice. I haven't been out painting in a couple weeks and it felt great to be outside. I can't even be upset about the rain because we need it so badly.

After walking around the farmers market and taking photographs, watching the chickens and talking to fellow plein air painters, I decided on a simple flower bush. The painting is actually a little warmer color in person. Just so you know it is an actual plein air painting, you can see the grass that is on the painting. Just kidding. “For the Love of Art” is a juried exhibition that started with more than 200 entries, which were narrowed down to the 49 works currently on display. While a majority of the featured pieces come from local artists, some entries were sent in from around the country and overseas.
One of the most striking paintings in the exhibit is “Precious Love” by Deborah Thomas.
The painting depicts two hands forming a heart with the feet of a baby cradled between them. The image depicts the unbroken bond and love between a parent and child. Another piece, “Hot Property” by Mitzi Easley, depicts a couple peacefully sitting under an umbrella on a secluded beach with an azure ocean in the background.

The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família (official Catalan name; Spanish: Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia; "Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family"), often simply called the Sagrada Família, is a massive, privately-funded Roman Catholic church that has been under construction in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain since 1882 and is not expected to be complete until at least 2026. Considered the master-work of renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926), the project's vast scale and idiosyncratic design have made it one of Barcelona's (and Spain's) top tourist attractions for many years. A portion of the building's interior is scheduled to open for public worship and tours by September of 2010^[1].

These are 12 x 24 panels. After seeing "Jackson Pollock" movie, the Hollywood version. I had a discussion on facebook with artist and non-artists about Pollock. This is what prompted this painting. I used no brushes in Pollock style... I have not seen the true documentary. I guess I'm too pop culture and shouldn't admit it on my artist blog. I had a lot of fun doing this but it was very messy. I did it on the floor of my garage. I hope you enjoy the humor. I tried to use some brighter colors.

Little Man Scuba

She lovingly refers to her son as "the little man" which inspired the title. I've also been drawn to the long canvas. I like it because it's a little different.

This painting is 16 x 8 and oil on panel. I took the photo in Portland at the Saturday Artist Market. It was interesting and I knew it would be a bit of a challenge. I've been working on it off and on. I may work on it some more but for now I want to sit with it.
